Stiiiiiiil waiting on final inspection........sigh.......😔

But, in the meantime, my lovely wife pretty much insisted that the new shop have red racing stripes. So we copied the stripe sizing from the Cobra and put it on the walls.

Oh, and we applied the window tinting to all three sliding windows and the windows in the garage door. Much less glare and a bit cooler.

I think my next project will be the epoxy coating on the floor but I'm going to have to wait until the temps get out of the triple digits otherwise the epoxy will kick over before I'm anywhere near done. It's supposed to be hot for the next week then it will cool off. Oh well, I waited this long........

OK, I'm looking for some advice/guidance on this.

51450330778_e89e4ac7ab_b.jpg

Here you see the usual concrete control joints that I have in the slab in the new shop. Having had these in the last shop, they are kind of a pain when rolling wheeled items across them. I was thinking of filling them in prior to epoxy coating. Question, should I fill them in and if so with what? Or should i just leave them alone and deal with them?

Thanks in advance.

Dan, in a commercial floor I did several years ago, we addressed the joints after the epoxy coating. I used foam backer rod to fill the joints followed by a Sika-flex product that cured fast and stayed pliable. The floor was done in grey epoxy and the joints were dark grey, it looked good and held up well to heavy traffic.1396DB1E-6A84-4A69-A8AD-699B69FDBA52.jpeg

Your epoxy supplier should be able to provide an epoxy filler to put in the floor before coating the floor. I used Arizona Polymer Floors RTE-100 Gel Crack Repair, and did it before coating the floor with their Epoxy/Poly 100. After watching a couple of YouTube videos, I applied it a little proud of the floor surface, and ground it flush with a diamond grinding wheel.

The distributor only sold it in 3 gallon kits, so I have quite a bit left over. PM me if you are interested in some, or would like the distributor's name. I'm just up the I-10 a ways from you...

The shots below show most of the 1000 sq. ft. that I treated in my shop. It had 16 rectangular sections separated by control joints. You can see where the control joints are in person by looking closely, but they don't show up in the pictures. You probably couldn't see them in person if I had done a flake finish, but I like the look of the uniform slate color.

Slowbuilder, thank you very much for this info. Like I said to Mac, I have some research to do. Both options sound appealing. Now if the freakin' temps would just come down a bit, I could get something done. :tantrum2:

BTW, your floors look great! Both of you.

Congratulations! Now, get those damned holes in the side walls covered up and sealed 😇
Hahahaha...... Oh you can bet those damned things will be caulked up and painted! And soon!
Maybe paint a fake stream on the floor between holes first.........nope :ROFLMAO:
Nice thought.......NOPE! Hahahahahaha.....

Had the roofers come back out to give us an estimate to re-do the roof on the house. He saw the flood vents on the shop and asked what kind of dog door they were. :headscrat

Thanks for stopping by guys!

OK Dan, enough jibber jabbering about the house roof and relaxing after the final inspection. You've got work to do. We want to see that shop setup with the tools and equipment in it and better yet, making chips and working on projects. ;)

We need more POWER! The electricians left me with this breaker box. Knowing that if I asked for a larger breaker box, they would ask all kinds of questions that did not apply. Never mind that the electrician freaked out when he saw the Bridgeport. (long story...) Anyway, this is what was left after initial installation.
51494994870_b9ea420f29_b.jpg

Not nearly enough spaces for the breakers that I needed.

So this weekend I removed that box and installed a new breaker box with a proper main breaker.

51494272758_983a82c0d2_b.jpg

Much more better.

So then after that, my good friend and I installed a bit of lighting. Let there be light!!!

The power to the light fixtures is temporary until I get some conduit run.

Next up is to call my HVAC guy to install the mini-split and get on his schedule. :bounce:

I don’t know Dan, that looks a wee more than a bit of lighting. It also looks great. WFH (Woo F’n Hoo)
WFH indeed, Mac!! And I still have 10 four foot LED fixtures to hang. Gonna need some shades when I flip the switch.

I'm thinking it will get a wee bit brighter in there when I put the epoxy down. :bounce:

Garage looking good Dan! I've been following your build, but just haven't been posting much.

I might have missed it, but what's your first planned project to do in the garage?

Garage is looking great! love the stripes!

My vote goes for a grey epoxy floor like what I have. DONT do flakes, you will curse the day you drop any kind of nut and bolt and it blends into the flakes in the floor.

Looks great in a showroom, not great in a workshop.

Grey... grey is nice...

Rudi.

Hi Rudi, I hear you on the flakes but I have been overruled. I was told I will have flakes. Now if I drop something, that's what my bar magnet is for. That sucker has come in handy more than a few times.

Now for the gray.......yeah, I'm not a fan of gray. But I certainly do appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks Madison! I think my first project will be to repair and reconfigure an electric boat winch. We keep having issues with the wire rope. We're going to try another route.

Intrigue, what's this electric boat winch you speak of? I've been eyeballing the boat winch on my boat trailer as it's rusty and the strap is looking rough. This winter is the time to change it out if I'm gonna do it.

Small update!

Things have been hectic around here and most of it was not shop related. I did get some work done on the shop. I decided on the Sikaflex product to fill in the expansion joint in the concrete. Overall, I like the stuff.

51627589055_e2b996f2bc_b.jpg

Next, I put down the epoxy color base coat for the shop floor.

51625900382_0f265b18ef_b.jpg

And lastly, I put the clear coat on. Turned out pretty good IMHO.

51625900327_36ea4360af_b.jpg

This past weekend, I was able to finish running the 240v feed for the mini-split and installed the service disconnect outside.

51626734141_419ab9bb23_b.jpg

And I started installing the wall cabinets that will go over the workbench.

51625900467_8530580c1a_b.jpg

I ordered the new air compressor which should be shipping shortly. :bounce: I have to wait for some other stuff that is back ordered......sigh......
