Weld Fillet Grinder

Anyone use a fillet grinder? I was looking at the Hardin on Zoros site but I cant ind any info on what the shaft/thread size is. Anyone have one of them?
The metabo is a little expensive for as little as I will use it.

Not really true if you are looking for a seamless joint, its not possible without grinding.

It basically does the same as a 4 1/2 but been in this biz for 35 years and don't own one of those.

You cannot get into tight angles with a regular grinder, some you could using a fillet grinding wheel on a regular grinder but not others, these for example

Lots of uses for one in this video although looks to be an air model

I don't put myself in a box where its difficult to grind. This takes some experience though. The guys in the vid should know better too and a common grinder with larger wheel would work. Those guys should hire better welders.
Pic 2 was a set up, can see where the operator stopped and set the machine about a volt difference looking to reduce splatter.

Those pictures show some rusted steel, this is for getting seamless joints in stainless tubing to polish it like Chrome. There is nobody that can weld that perfect for a seamless look in stainless tubing.
Some of these angles in this video can be reached with a regular grinder and a fillet grinding disc, but there are some that cannot and this tool would make it easier, plus im a took junkie.

Back to my original question, does anyone have one of the Hardin grinders and can tell me what the shaft spindle size is?

Makes more sense then a dedicated tool, but there may be some technical advantages that model has? I dont see anything tho...

I purchased a nice used Metabo 1.5" straight die grinder for those tricky spots.

I did see that but I forgot to mention I was also looking at them on Ebay and they are similar model numbers and like all Chinese tools many people rebrand them even though they are the same thing. Some call it a HCP-6200 and others a HCG-6200.
This seller told me that the spindle on this one is 25mm.

Oh, well if you are looking at knock-offs its a different story.

Switching out a spindle is not all that hard.

And buying a dedicated spindle nut / or even disc wouldnt be that bad.

Never used one, I have used a big Die Grinder though with a carbide burr to clean out inside corners... Unless the print calls for a ground weld, then if FLAT Convex or Concave.

Try the dynabrade or metabo belt sander. Pretty sure they have a concave wheel for the end you can put on to get a smooth radius.

Edit: nevermind, missed the part about $240 being over budget...but you could use it for quite a bit more as opposed to buying the other gizmo.

Please post on how you like the new METABO . I have three old style of which my first Metabo is 30 years old and still going. GREAT tools.
Their compact end grinder is on my list. My old all metal Milwaukee is still going, darn !

Doesn't work on steel, I tried that. The welds are too hard and just shred the sandpaper cones without removing much metal.

I was going to suggest d y n a b r a d e but seen your budget and also from your post that you must really need a fillet grinder so hopefully the one you decided on works for your situation.

I ended up ordering the Metabo flat one and the Hardin Fillet weld one from Zoro since they had the 30% off sale the other day. I received the Hardin already and it will work with a 7/8" disc hole size and does give a long reach, the threaded shaft is some smaller metric thread so 5/8-11" threaded accessories wont work on it.
If you need to borrow one let me know, I got a pipe notcher as well as a pipe polisher on the way and there is a metal place near me that has steel pipe called Foymart.

Can never have too many tools or Grinders right?

Havent been to metal supermarkets yet but from what I see on their website they seemed expensive and more geared towards smaller pieces, Foymart only has steel Pipe there though no Tube, but its not the black iron stuff like lowes. There is also Dillon supply on Civic Blvd in Raleigh and they have a huge warehouse with anything you could want which is where I get all my stock now.
Everything is in 20-25 foot lengths though. if you decide to bend anything I have a air/hydraulic bender but I only have dies for 3/4 and 1/2" pipe.

Your right, I missed that on Zoros page at first but if you see the post below that a bit I was wondering about the Ebay ones as well with the same or similar model number, which none have any shaft or spindle size listed which threw me off.

I was just teasing. I actually missed you had already purchased it. And why in the hell would they make it for a standard 5/8 spindle but then not have a 5/8 option on the output?

Dunno, even though its a 5/8 arbor, the nut they give is a little too large outside diameter to fit down into a flap disc, probably because its really meant for flat wheels. Ill have to make a smaller one or turn this one down a bit on the lathe to use flap discs on it.
The Metabo arrived today as well and it looks really nice.
The Metabo came with a 5" one of these discs, I bought some of the 4.5" ones from here.

They are angled upwards to get into corners better and also would work great on just a regular grinder.

We use and have about a half a dozen dynafiles, both air and 110v... they work but it takes patience.

As to the ignorant ppl posting learn to weld better or dont put ur self in spot where u cant get to it with a 4 1/2 inch... you obviously dont do diary grade finish on stainless for some of the things they need... half the **** we build you cant hardly fit a #9 torch, with a stubby gas lens and a button back down inside of ... let alone your hand.. or a flipping grinder...

Does the op sound like someone that does dairy finish? I do have a 4 inch with a small head but rarely use it, probably not in the last 15 or 20 years.
