Got both the natural gas heaters installed and the ceiling fans intalled- they work great. The next thing I need is a welding/cutting table. I've been looking for a used one on Craigslist and in the KSL for sale ads and haven't found one. So I'm going to build one!! I want to be able to cut with both my oxy-acetylene torch and my plasma cutter and also to weld fairly large projects on it. Any ideas? I though the cutting grid should have a tray under it to catch the sparks and be able to remove and dump it. Also though of making the top with a some angles on their toes to hold round projects from rolling around. Also thought maybe on casters- I have 3 bays 2 with 14 x12 overhead doors and the center is a for clean work (mechanical work and powder coating). Any ideas would be appreciated-
Thanks,
Dennis

I would think that the welding table and the cutting table should not be the same table. you want a welding table to be clean and flat, the cutting table will take some punishment if you use it a bunch.
I have a welding table that has wheel and get used for alot of nisc stuff. very usefull.
the cutting table is made so the legs fold and it can be stood up out of the way whe I do not need it

Yes, this is how you should do it. a good welding table will allow you to clamp, level and square........

Here's mine, has most of the things you listed (cutting grate with catch pan, interchangable vise mounts--using reciever stock on all 4 corners, clamp hangar)

4'x6'x3/8" plate top, 3/16" diamond plate bottom shelf, 2x2x1/8" tube for frame. Materials cost was ~$200.

One of these days I'll get around to posting a build thread (probably once I finally clean off all the junk that's sitting on it)

What a great idea for the vise !

My cutting "table" is a used steel drum with replaceable 1/16 x 2 grates held vertically, it works great, hardest part was slotting the angle iron to allow me to replace the grates.

The welding table is 30"x30" 1/4" steel plate on top of angle iron, wish I had thought of that vise mounting before I bolted the vise to a corner.

Yah yah yah, we been waiting for a build thread on that welding table. Its definitely gonna be a modified copy when I build mine. I thinkin more longer and wider grating section for bigger pieces to cut on. Thicker top too I think.
