Welders and Fabrication TOOLS down under (AUS)

Hey guys long time lurker, only posted a few times but have followed alot on here over the years. I am planning a move to Australia in a few months and was hoping I could get some insight from some fellow "garage mechanics". I am bringing a container full of tools and households. Among the list are also a Miller 180 Mig welder, and was hoping to pickup a plasma table, and a TIG. However, I was informed that power in AU is 240 not 220. Makes me wonder if buying things like a nice TIG and even bringing my MIG might be not fruitful. hoping you can provide some insight. Also Given that options A make no sense. What are the popular welders comparable to a Miller or Lincoln, or Hobart welder available in Australia? Thanks in advance.

Can't speak for Aus but the USA is 240vac....if you don't believe me, go measure it

Australia is 230vac, 50Hz while the US is 240vac, 60Hz. They sell Miller, Lincoln and Hobart welders there, I'd wait and buy one in country.

The vast majority of Australia is supplied with 230Vac, with a potential upside variance of either 6 or 10%.

A key point to consider with all your equipment is that all Australian power is 50Hz rather than the US 60Hz standard.

As Stuart in MN mentioned, pretty much any US branded welding equipment can be sourced in Australia, just don't be surprised when it comes at a significant premium to US prices. Lincoln is the easiest to come by generally, but the range available will likely not be as broad as you may be used to.

Good excuse to upgrade... the new inverter welders (Millermatic 211) will run on both US and AUS power without issue.

Buy as much as u can in the USA as the AU prices will make u cry. A lot of the 3 phase and inverter stuff will be fine.
