welding .050 5182 aluminum alloy

I have a aluminum boat that needs some repair, so I contacted Alumacraft and they said .050 5182 alloy is what was used.

Can 5182 be welded?

Yes it can be welded. It is a non-heat treatable aluminum that is used in ship building.

That's the alloy used in most aluminum boats to be used in salt water, along with 5082. It is readily welded. 5052 is the freshwater version, and is also readily welded.

you can also do a 'boat patch' by using a piece of aluminum, epoxy, and some solid rivits
