Just thought I'd share a couple pictures of some projects I built with my scrap steel pile.

Small table. Top is 3/16 plate.

Harbor Freight End Cabinet Welding Cart. All credit to jolyroger7 for the idea.

Great work OP . . . those turned out nice !! . .

I'm really liking the welding cart from side box as I also bought a Lincoln welder. Is the bottom drawer large enough to hold welding helmet ??

What brand and color of paint did you use ??

Unfortunately, a welding helmet won't fit in the bottom drawer. The paint is just rustoleum red in a 1 qt can from a hardware store. It matches 'okayish'.

Very nice, almost looks like powder coating finish! Of course, a photo can be kinda forgiving, LOL........

Not sure if I like the welder high up on top like that, but it definitely is nice having all the welding accessories right there.

How big is your shop? My garage is only 950sf, so I had to make small welding cart that would fit underneath workbench. I just don't have any extra floor space. A lot of us know how that goes, hahaha.... :D

Real nice cart...

Take a piece of heater hose where you have the clamps, slice it down the middle to protect the paint.

I think you can even find red hose ..

I don't care about it enough to protect the paint. It's going to be pretty beat up in its intended use.

Rustoleum thinned with mineral spirits and shot through a gun produces a pretty decent finish. Plus it's cheap. Less than 10 dollars a qt. Downsides seem to be finicky recoat windows and a long dry time.

I'm not worried about the welder up there. The cart is wide at 20 inches, and it's an inverter machine and only weighs about 40 pounds. With the cabinet, heavy steel frame, and two gas bottles it's pretty stable.

Yeah man, thinning is the bomb. I do that a lot. As long as you prep carefully and avoid runs, the paint (or poly or whatever) will definitely lay out flatter. Heck, even a rattlecan works good if you take your time. I sprayed two support columns in my garage with satin black Rustoleum rattlecan and most folks thought they were powder coated.

Nice work................... :)
