Welding cart slant shelf

Got to make a better cart. Looking at ideas I see a lot of slanted shelves like this. Is there a functional reason for this?

For better viewing of the setting controls. Most compact feeders have much smaller knobs and text than full size, floor units. Modern full size units are starting to tilt the control panel upwards, but many a machines were produced with panels perpendicular to the floor and not too high off the ground. People managed.

The angle helps to minimize the cable bending at machine. A bend free cable results in easier wire feeding . Many carts have the machine on a middle shelf so the cable naturally goes uphill slightly. Depending on the height of cart on top would be fine. Check these out from welding web.

That was what was confusing me. If the slant shelf was near the ground i can see it helping with visual and cables. but its already at 3 or 4 feet and still with a good slant in the ones i was seeing. Ok i don't need it so less figuring needed.

On that thought I’m wondering why they are not on their sides to make changing wire easier? So lay the welder with the door to the ceiling

Most of them angle up though, which induces more of a bend, no? Which is why most of the modern full size machines point the feeder output downward. I remember a few years ago when miller started to change their machines and promote it, they made it sound as if it wouldn't function in any other direction. IIRC, lincoln beat them to it.

I angled mine to make reading the controls easier, and my machine is 4 feet off the ground.

I am straight.
The blue cart started out as a direct fit for theplasma, I finally put it and the Hobart on top of the synchro, took the SPT off the shopping cart and put it on the blue cart. The little red machine got a lotto miles on it. 20, maybe 30 thousand welds on it.

I got lazy and bought one of these.. I had the MIG on a tilted trolley before this, I sold that with the smaller MIG I offloaded recently. Makes not a rats of difference in my opinion.
