So I've been looking at a lot of welding carts, both commercial and custom, and I'm at a loss...

why do they have decent sized wheels in the "rear", and teeny little casters up front? Why not put decent (4" or more) casters in front? :dunno:

I guess because if you put 4" casters in the front then you'd need 8" wheels in the back so it'd sit level and that would make for a high center of gravity.

I have strongly thought about building a welder cart for this exact reason. For as simple as a welder cart is, I've never seen a production one I really like 100%.

Think it has a lot to do with the terrain you need to cover, in my case always on concrete. I used what I had on hand (about 3") and has been more than satisfactory.

I keep threatening to build a cart with larger wheels. Every time I am welding my cart gets stuck on something stupid like a pebble on the concrete. But I'm always too busy to build **** so I'll either buy it or con a buddy into building it lol!

A couple of reasons
One. the tank on the back can be heavier than the actual welder. If not it is at least the full weight of the tank plus part of the welder verses the front that only holds part of the welder.

Two. Cost. They saved 92 cents by going to the smaller wheels. More for them and less for you

i'd like to build a cart for my welder, but the bottom has an over hang for the gas bottle to sit on. i suppose i could always cut that section off but then i can never put the original wheels on again
