Ok, I had to throw my hat in the ring. I built this table with a grid of 1/2-13 drilled and tapped hole on a 3" spacing. The top measures 3'x5'. It has 3 legs so it always sits flat. I added a cabinet to hold my clamps and related welding supplies. I painted it automotive base / clear. Its a finish that's a little more durable in a machine shop. Its an excellent way to pin assemblies prior to welding and keeps them in position while they cool. I use the step clamps from my milling machine. Ive made countless weldments on this and I cant imagine my shop without it. I use it for tig welding only so theres no splatter to worry about.

I really like that type of surface, with that hole pattern and machinist clamps their is no limit to how you can fix things to it.

I need to look for a cabinet like that for my table, that is an excellent use of the space under the table.

Drilling and tapping all of this.... Must have burned some time

I would have Water Jetted the table holes, but then you still have to tap them.

I tell all of ya'll this, I have yet to see a welding table built here. All I have seen is beautifully hand crafted works of art dubbed "welding tables". I could not in good conscience take a hammer, grinder or WELDER to the stuff you guys make.
