If you are working with others ....you need to be careful that no grinding sparks hits the inside of the glass of your helmet.....probably not glass but plastic as sparks (steel shards) melt right into the surface and ruin it ............Ive lost several view pieces this way.

I have 2 Millers a Classic that has seen a lot of use for MIG, and a Digital Elite that is primarily for TIG. The difference in clarity of the puddle is significant.

The headgear on both is kinda fragile so I avoid hanging them on things. They are stored in bags on a shelf.

I don't understand the reason behind only using the digital elite for TIG. I like to see what I'm doing regardless of what kind of welding I'm doing.

The Classic came first along with the 211 Autoset. It's still fine for most MIG stuff. I got the DE when I bought the Diversion 180. I like being able to swap lids for different process instead of twisting little knobs.

Welding helmet preference really just boils down to personal preferences and what you want out of the helmet.

Me personally, I hate excessively complex headgear, so I tend to remove them and put on my favorite gear.

I weld professionally, and use a Miller Elite for my auto helmet and a Jackson Shadow for my fixed shade.

The Jackson headgear is my preferred headgear and I drilled out my Miller helmet to accept the Jackson headgear.

My co-workers use the company supplied ESAB hoods and seem to like them. I don’t care for ESAB so I returned mine.

Speedglas makes a nice lens, but you pay out the rear for it.

What ever you decide on make sure you can replace the battery in the helmet. Some of the cheaper helmets either don’t have replacement batteries, or it’s a PIA to change the battery out. If you go cheap like harbor freight, make sure you keep your helmet facing a window to keep the battery charged when not using it. The HF cheap helmets last a fair amount of time as long as they are facing a window to keep the battery charged.

Just bought a cheap Yeswelder auto darkening but have not used it yet. Certainly a step up from the one I found on the highway and have been using since 25 years ago.

Isn't there a formula like buying an engagement ring on what % of your monthly salary from welding you should spend on a helmet?

OP here, I did just recently pull the trigger on a new Lincoln Viking 3350 (old SKU) and I am loving the clarity of the lens and comfort of the headgear. I took a few minutes to get it adjusted to my head, and was very impressed. I went with the old SKU for the analog controls and lack of bluetooth. I have not actually welded with it yet, but will be doing so very soon. I think the recommendations on it were solid, thank you all. Hopefully this thread continues for those still on the hunt for a new helmet.

I like mine. The only thing I dislike is the size of the knobs. It's hard to make adjustments or put it in grind mode without taking my gloves off.

I have the Miller T94. It's a few years old. It's just OK. I can't seem to get the headgear to fit correctly. I like the side lenses, but I wouldn't buy it again. After trying a ESAB at my jobber shop, I will get one of those when it's time for a replacement.

My son loves his Lincoln 3350, he is a welder by trade and probably has an arc time of 4-6 hours a day. Clarity and comfort are priority for him. He has tried Miller 3M, Jackson and a few others Lincoln is his choice.

I have a speed glass and before that I had a Miller elite. There both good helmets. I also have the option to have the forced air speed glass.

Bluetooth? So, this is for the boss that wants to see how many hours you're welding? Bossman on the intercom: "Fred, WTF are you doing??? You haven't been welding for 6 minutes. If you're not on the pot, you better have an excuse!" :ROFLMAO:
