Advice and information about welding jackets and game cameras would be much appreciated.

Welding Jacket:
Looking to buy one for my girlfriend. It will be for occasional, recreational use rather than daily work use. Most of it will be inside a garage that is unconditioned. Pros and cons of the different materials/styles would be helpful.

Game Camera:
This would be for my property. I'm looking for something that will take photos day or night, will be almost impossible to see, and that will take video as well as stills. Basically, I want to know who visits my place, be it two-legged or four legged. Ability to capture license plate images is helpful. At this point, I want a game cam vs a security camera system, because I want to move it around to different areas, and some will be far from power. Is this Bushnell a good option? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IID3PX0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Any help would be much-appreciated!

For occasional use, those green welding jackets are inexpensive but they still work pretty well. You should be able to get one at any local welding shop for around $25.

I have one like that. Do you have a TSC close by, they have a similar Hobart one for about the same price but in black. I can't imagine it'll be much different, especially for "recreation" use.

The best material for a welding jacket is leather. The ones from a welding supply house are pricey, especially the name brand ones. I bought a very nice mens leather jacket at the thrift store for $2. Now I look pretty dapper and I'm well protected at the same time.

Sorry, I don't know anything about game cameras.

Thanks for the recommendations so far, and please keep them coming. I see welding jackets made out of several different materials and even combinations of materials, and I can see pros and cons to the types. No Tractor Supply places nearby, but I will stop in at the local farm co-op as well as the local welding supply place to see what they have. AMCguy: If I ever see one in a thrift store, I'll grab it for myself! The one I'm looking for now is a gift for my girlfriend.

I have been looking for a game/trail camera myself. With my limited research I found the information on www.trailcampro.com to be quite helpful.

There are all sorts of things I never considered, they also have recommendations for folks who are going to use the cameras for security.

Might be worth a look to narrow your search.

We use game cameras for security purposes as you describe.

One with a "black light" flash will be undetectable to the naked eye.

We currently use Moultrie M-990's. Great Camera.

http://www.chasingame.com/ is great for unbiased game camera reviews, and has a good discussion forum as well.

I use Spy Point BF-7 cameras on my hunting property with a black infrared flash which is invisible to the eye... basically with trail cameras the more you are willing to spend the more you get. More mega pixles, 1080P vs 720P, HD, pictures or video can be sent automatically to your cell or email, etc. You'll also find that the cheaper version trail cameras are a lot bulkier than the ones you'll pay more for which are more concealable.

This is basically what i was going to post. I like Moultrie cameras - they have lasted and take good pictures for me.

You need the "Black Flash" some models may have a visible red indicator light when it takes the picture, you can cover them up with a piece of tape.

Faster the trigger speed the better - helps to make sure whatever set off the motion snesor is still in the field of view when the picture is taken.

We have experienced several sport cameras and we prefer undoubtedly the particular spypoint.

I have a couple different ones at my property to catch thieves. As previously mentioned, I cover everything but the motion sensor and camera lens with black electrical tape. If they see it, they might try to destroy it even if they can't take it.

The biggest feature for me is the delay time. Get a camera with the shortest delay possible. I had one with a 30s delay, the thieves triggered the camera but were hard to get a picture of because they don't stand still in one spot for 30s.

I think one is a Moultrie and one is a Wild Game Innovations, but the delay time is the most important for catching thieves. I hid one so well, I got pics of the guy loading stuff in his truck to sell for scrap. The sheriff made short work of catching them with a picture.....

Just upgraded our game cams to Moultrie m1100i models and couldn't be happier. We are using them for HD video to monitor the health of an injured fox on our property. We get awesome videos, between 20 and 45 per day and in a single 24 hour period have seen 2 doe, rabbits, opposum, 2 racoons, a skunk, 3 neighbors cats, an unknown dog, squirrels, owl, the 2 fox we want to see and tons of birds. We had our last camera for 2 years and never saw that much in the entire time combined.
