Can't you put a welding blanket down to protect the floor? That's what
I plan to do if I ever need to weld in the shop.

When possible I throw a welding blanket on the floor and it works great, but then again I have plastic tiles that love to melt (Racedeck). With the blanket its fine.

A sprayed polyurea should hold up fine for welding. But its not going to look the greatest.

no harm taken and I agree with you, I made the mistake of trying to spruce up my garage and fully covered the floor with Racedeck tiles and started melting tiles the second day, I chose to cover the floor with a blanket when I weld/cut/grind and I can't move the chassis out to the driveway. Now the next garage will have a space untiled, I have gotten smarter in my old age.

Most of the time I move out what I am working on but since I just put the wheels on the frame and still have not put the body on, its sometimes hard to move it out.

One side effect of the inexpensive scoffed at and spat on by many water born 2 part epoxies is they seem to resist slag well. I weld, plasma cut and grind all the time over mine and it takes it with little mark left behind. I think the film is thin enough that the heat soaks into the concrete under the coating without leaving a melted hole or soot crater. Plasma slag dances across the floor and is easily swept up. Coated dust free easy to broom clean and no slag craters. I use some wet plywood when making big cuts with a gas torch as the slag in big blobs at times. The wet plywood keeps them from wandering off and starting fires.

Almost any coating will work if the circumstances are right... It all depends on how far off the floor you are and what type of welding you do. In general, a heat resistant glass flake filled Novolac will hold up well.
