Welding Outlet Safety Switch

I would like to add a 50 amp welding outlet in my home shop. My house has 200 amp service, but both the meter outside and circuit breaker panel inside are far enough from my shop to make installing a welding outlet relatively expensive.

However, I have an a/c compressor unit powered by a 50 amp circuit just outside my shop. The fan cooling unit is in the attic powered by a 20 amp circuit. Disconnects for both circuits are outside by the compressor unit. I never use the a/c, but would rather not permanently disable it. So I am considering running the line from the 50 amp a/c disconnect to a non-fused general-duty double-throw safety switch (approved for outdoor use). From there reconnecting one line to the compressor unit and running the other line through the wall into my shop. At the new safety switch, when the handle is down power will be directed to the a/c unit. When the handle is up power will go to my shop welding outlet, and when the handle is in the middle position neither leg is energized.

Would this meet code? Am I overlooking anything?

Not familiar with the code on that particular application, but I've used similar switches to power redundant HVAC equipment from one source. They were in commercial locations, so things may be different for a residential application.
