That's odd. Needlenose pliers done cut very well either!
That depends entirely on the brand/quality of the needlenose pliers. Mine work great for cutting the solid wire sizes used in my welders. Each pair I have is at least 25-30 years old

Necessary? Nope.

However I've two sets, one to hold the other to clean. They save me time and found a deal on both like the Irwin above.
Would I buy two new at MSRP, nope.

I just use side cutters but id happily buy the proper pliers because it put multiple different needs into one tool. I have no attachment to tips ill change them out as needed even multiple times a day if I'm mig welding all day. Tig welding which is my main type of welding I do I would only use them to cut lengths of wire in half which is standard practice for me. Two shorter lengths of wire are far more easier to weld with then one long one.
