Welding powdercoat ?

Are there any dangers welding powdercoat like when welding galvanized ? Even with a breeze ...you breath a little of it.

Clean it off before you weld and then get it powder coated again when you have welded it.

You will need a good paint stripper to remove it and to get a good finish again you would need to remove all the powder coating and start over once welded ot it will look terrible.
I speak from experience as I had to re weld a bar on a truck some time ago.

Gasket remover is the best way to get the powder coat off, other than blasting. I have never heard of any adverse affects from welding fumes though, and we have welded and smoked it off a few times. And, HOTFR8 is right about having to get the entire piece stripped and re PC'd to look good, only other option is getting it paint matched and using touch up paint in the area as long as it the powder coat doesn't have any neon pigment in it, it will fairly easy to match and blend.

Doing it for a friend. Building custom gates for his fences. He said he was going to prime and touch up when I am through.I am grinding off as little as possible to weld. Glad to hear the fumes wont hurt/kill me.Thank you for the info.
