Welding project: canopy pole barn

The only thing allowed in my county without a permit is any canopy based covering. I just wanted to something to cover the Waverunners and the Yard equipment and did not want the typical store bought 10x20 tarp. Just finished ot up tonight. Still have to cut the excess length of the 4x4s. Pretty happy with it. I just bought a ton of 1/2 square and started cutting and welding. No mitres ...just sticking them together. Coated with truck bed liner.

I live in Florida. We have been know to have some high winds from time to time...lol. However we do tend to have some warning ahead of time. I decided to fasten the canopy with large black zip ties so that in the event of a Hurricane or Tropical storm the canopy can come down in about 10 minutes.

Also the two 20 foot spans are not 1/2 inch but are 1 inch square 1/8 wall. It probably 10 times stronger than the typical 10x20 sold everywhere for $199.
Secured with five 4x4 poles sunk 24-30 inches with cement. Its quite rigid. But again...during real storms the canopy will come down.

It only fit out the 2 car side of the shop. We had a hell of a time getting it around the back, up and over fences etc...lol. It was me and my wife and both my shoulders are currently hurt. But it weighs about 110 lbs. So its doable.

nice welding on the frame. I think I would put a 3' skirt around the top to keep the sun and rain off of them more better.

As long as they are the type that is UV resistant....

Need a cable tie for the outdoors? General nylon 6/6 is only moderately protective from UV radiation; however, stabilizers can be incorporated in to the resin during production to increase UV resistance. For solar panel applications or general outdoor use and extended sun exposure, make sure your tie is UV-stabilized. These ties are produced in black only

Well, he said black zip ties. And black are UV resistant.

Thats actually the main reason I built it. I just got the 430. Its an 86 I think and it was kept indoors all its life. It actually had some things wrong with it that required fixing...but those items cost $65. I paid $500 for the 430.
Got the Ruegg three point and I have the JD 44 loader on its way.

You did a great job, I like it! I have a couple of questions if you don't mind:

1. what was the total cost of the project?
2. what kind of fabric/tarp is that? where did you get it?

I did not keep total track of costs, mainly because of the multiple trips to the metal mart. I estimate the steel cost around $200.
The tarp is purchased through Amazon and was $119

Five 4x4 post that were about $12 each

About 5 cans of truck bed liner which I already had but thats about $25.

So Overall I would say right around $400

I am sure I could have shaved off quite a bit by being able to transport the 24 foot tubing in full pieces. I had to have them cut into 12 foot pieces. This led to wasted material and additional cut costs.

Hey, that's not too bad. I've never really purchased steel so I wasn't sure what the price range was. I bet that thing was fun to make!
