I stumbled across these pics from a couple of summers ago and thought you guys might apreciate 'em.
A friend asked me to build him a dewatering roll-off dumpster. Basicly line a dumpster with a screen spaced out from all sides / floor that allows water to drain off the material and out through drains as it dries -- take the dry material (weighs less) and dump it (costs less at the landfill). All pretty basic work, 3" channel, 2" angle, 7GA perforated floor, expanded metal screen for side walls. I bought the Miller 12VS for this job (good excuse for a good welder!). Took about 6 Saturday's in the home shop.:

Looks good. Is the mesh on the sides necessary? How much is your friend saving with this system?

I'm pretty sure we figured it was less than half the cost to build ourselves (close to 1/3 IFIRC), rather than buying one ready made from a commercial supplier. My memory is that this ended up being around 6K when the supplier quoted around 15k
Having the space around the sides, as well as the floor, helps it to drain / dry faster.

as for the cost, we built a liftgate for our race car trailer this summer(old one rusted through). it's 8'x12', the trailer manufacture quoted us 7 grand 3 weeks, we did it under 1 in 5 days. kicker is, we used heavier material and treated all the guts with epoxy primer.
