When you say "turn the gas down" how low are we talking? If I go too low won't I start getting porosity in the welds?

Interesting take on all the welding information, and I learned a lot. but the correct answer from above was "not do any welding at all". Use a bolt.

the minimum needed to provide coverage, since you're welding slower pace and dwelling longer in the same area, no need to be freeze blasting the weld puddle with 20cfh of ice cold Co2.

if you're buzzing along on thin stock single pass, kicking *** & taking names, then turn it up and move on out.

O.K., that makes sense, I suppose that would also vary with what conditions I am welding in, by that I mean indoors or out in the driveway. I'll just have to crank it down on some scrap until I start having issues, then turn it up a bit..........

You can add a bolt. If it was me, Id grind the welds flat and redo them hotter. But two bolts works too.
