What are you using and source for welding screens. I guess those sorta clear yellow plastic screens are what I was used to years ago, but that was many years ago. We watch the 6 yr old grandson and he is curious and it is almost impossible to not look at someone welding. If he get flashed...his Grandmother will kick my ***. She's little, but I'm afraid off her.

I think Northern Tool sells them your local welder supply should have them too, then there always eBay or amazon.

Yup. Another helmet or a pair of shade 5 glasses. Teach him not to look at the weld without the helmet or glasses. A case of flash burn won't cause permanent damage. If he doesn't listen and gets flash burn, he won't do it twice.

He is 6 years old. Wouldn’t bother with the helmet. Or you will be buying all his other buddies new lids for your gluing of steel productions.

I have several welding blankets from HF. if I need a screen I just use 2 ladders and clamp the blanket between. works for me.
That is my thought process also. He might want to do it once he sees it. Can’t tell you how many youngsters I’ve taught to weld because I have extra helmets and they thought it was the coolest (just like I did).
When my daughter started walking, she wanted to climb the stairs. We told her get mommy or daddy and you can climb all you want. Just don’t climb by yourself. So she would get me, and I’d stay with her, let her climb to the top and I’d carry back down and let her climb to the top and repeat. It wasn’t a taboo thing to climb steps, once she could climb and get down on her own, we still want to be with her, but it significantly reduced the danger.
I’d rather see him be with you in the shop and interested in what pa-paw is doing than sitting and watching tv all day.
