Bought this welding table from a fellow whose dad took them home from an Alameda naval base is 2x4 with angle iron legs instead of square stock. I would like to add hitch receivers for my vise and would like to put this craftsman grinder he sold me for 25 bucks on another receiver. If anybody knows any info on it that would be awesome. My question is should I remove the angle iron so I have some over hang and replace it with square stock or should I buy some matching angle iron and weld it to make it a square? Lastly since there is no bracing on the legs should I add it or is the open triangle sufficient? Thanks

Looks pretty stout as is, but boxing a section would make it easier to mount a receiver.

you think i should only box 1 section? should i leave the legs? i guess if im going to box anything it would prob be a long and a short side. or a long and 2 short sides.

Cut the 2*2 hole in the angle and weld receiver inside or weld it to the bottom of the under table angle and weld a stand off to hold the inside end of the receiver to the bottom of the top plate....or weld it to the out side of the leg angle. Could mount it vertical also.

Just like joe49, my first thought would be to cut the square out of the angle, and weld in the tube. It would be plenty strong to hold that grinder. Weld it to both legs of the angle, I bet you never have a problem.

One way I rationalize the strength is try to relate to something personal, something you can get an idea on how strong it is. So if you could put a piece of material in the newly welded in receiver tube and stand on it and not break it, then it should hold the grinder just fine. I’d bet if you really did that, the table would flip before anything broke.

Good ideas. Didnt think about that. Would it flex though when i go put something in the vice and try to bend it? Im sure for the grinder it would be fine. Ford I like how you did your grinder mounts

Doubt it. You’ll probably flip the table first.
