Welding table build

3' x 5', half inch steel top. Altogether it weighs about 600 pounds, but it rolls fine on the casters.

Yeah probably caster hardware clearance.

You have it right -- the plates on the ends of the legs were turned 45 degrees in order to get access to the caster hardware. When I originally got the casters I thought I'd just weld them on and cut off the excess mounting plate. But then I saw a few internet pictures of failed casters and decided to make them replaceable.

I was actually trying to match my Grizzly tools, but Metabo is better!

By the way, I do recommend the Rustoleum hammered finish paint. (At least the Deep Green one.) It's pretty nasty stuff, though, and has to be thinned with xylenes, not paint thinner. It destroyed my Old Faithful 2 1/2 inch brush that has seen me through years of painting projects with careful cleaning.

That's a solid looking table, definitely will get many good years of use out of that.
I'll give you a little tip for the mill scale: I use muriatic acid, outside the shop, and then immediately rinse everything with the garden hose. It will flash rust, but it's MUCH easier to clean flash than scale. The first few projects I welded, I probably burned through $50 in abrasives. Get some chemical gloves, goggles, and a respirator, though. Nasty stuff.
