Diy welding/fabrication table

I’m going to build a welding table to use in my garage. Here are a few details of my plan: Paint it red to match my toolbox, 5″ casters to make it mobile. The table top is 60″ x 30″ x 1/2″, two toolboxes to put under the table. I come back with more details later, when i get the last items i need before i can start building the table.

I hope you guys like pictures, because i will post a lot when the build goes on.

Sorry about the mess in my garage, one day it will be very nice and clean here

Make sure your casters have good lock mechanisms or you may be chasing that weld piece

My plan is to make it height adjustable, extendable on one side and make a base for my metal cutting saw on the other side.

Today i got some M24 thread bars for adjusting the height and level the welding table. In my drawing you can see the principal on how to adjust the table.

The base for the toolboxxes are finished.

What will the height range be? It's starting to look pretty tall with those tool boxes.

Normal working height will be about 36.5″, and i can adjust all the way up to 70″ if i want.

I have now cut all the legs to the correct lengt, and working with the mechanism to adjusting the legs.

Can the threaded rod or nut be replaced without too much trouble if they strip or thread gets buggered up? BCD

It can be done, but i don't think that will be a problem. I will also lube the nut and rod with some grease.

Keep in mind if you plan to use an oxy—gas torch on that table, oxygen and oils do not mix.

I think I am going to have to borrow that leg design for a downdraft sanding table I want to build in my list of future projects! Table is looking good!

I put some 4″ all steel whells this time, that’s because i had some clearance issues with the 5″ option.

How do you adjust height once the table is complete? Where/how to turn the nuts on the threaded rod? I'm assuming it lifts only the top of the table.

I will use a 36mm socket to adjust the table. First i have to drill a hole thru the table top, then put the socket inn the hole. This way i kan adjust all the table legs as i want. I can show you later in the build.

A little update on my table. I’m working on the bace for the metal cutting saw, this is what i did today:
