Well I have been an avid reader here on GJ but haven't really posted alot. In looking on here and the internet, I got the notion that I needed a welding table in my shop. I am currently working on a '71 Camaro and what ever else that comes down the line my way. So I have a very sturdy roll around cart that I have some wood on and then a piece of 1/8" plate sitting on it that I have been working off of.

So I finally made up my mind after searching CL and Ebay for any great deals on one with no luck, to go get the materials and build one.

Sooooooo ....... away we go!!! Check it out.

Building the table upside down. I just hope I can read a tape measure good!!

The tool box I'm gonna put on one end of the table. I stole this idea from Duker's posting on his welding table.

Although I am no welder, I don't think this is but so bad....

But then I turn out something like this..........WTF?

More to come later.

You just lost track of your joint. Grind and weld it up. You're vertical weld up needs some work. Try striking the arc above the bottom and then moving to the bottom to start your weld. I'm not an expert but I think you need to angle your torch differently. I'm thinking it was pointing downward.

Well here are some more pics of my welding table. I am almost finished, just need to do a little grinding around the edge of the table where I cut with the plasma and then paint the legs. Although I am no welder, I thought it turned out pretty good and will serve me well for years.

Nice looking table and very well done. I might have to borrow your design and build one similar to it this summer. I just wish the price of steel would come down first.

Nice. That oughta last awhile. I have my great grandfathers welding table. It was made from 1/8" steel, at most. Lasted the better part of 60 years, so yours should be around for years to come.

Expanded metal mesh is super $$$ for some reason of late. I love it for doing open shelves where metal dust can fall through, but at the current prices, it's prohibitive.

Huh, that was my 1200th post here.
