Hey fellas
I just saw a video on welding tips. The guy had a great welding table. It had I think 3/8 steel for the top with holes vert and horz. and he could insert clamps into the holes to secure the piece he was welding. I would love to build one like that. I was wondering if you can buy the steel plate with the holes already drilled in it? Also where would I get the clamps and what would be a good size table to build for my hobbie garage? I was thinking 3"x4"? What do you think?
Thanks guys

Mike

I don't know as you can buy the top with holes but it isn't hard to do just rent or buy a mag drill and lay out the pattern you want and drill away (suggest a rotabroch bit)

If you don't want to do the drill yourself any machine shop should be able to do it for you.

My table has holes you can see it Here

After I get moved and set up shop again I'm going to convert a large machine tool table, pallet, faceplate, or other T-slot fixture into a welding table. There are plenty of them available reasonably cheap in scrap yards, theyre usually super flat, and have the added advantage of being iron which IMHO is a much better choice than steel for a table.

I really like Adam's table linked below, but am planning on something larger and also want to build something that tilts.

If you buy your steel from a machine shop and know what size and where you want the holes, I'm sure they'll do them for a small charge.

weldtables.com has the kits with holes. I saw a video of a guy putting one together on Youtube. Pretty cool, but pricey to be sure. There is a video on Youtube of ChuckE2009 building his 4x8 welding table and using a mag drill to drill a couple hundred holes. It took forever...don't think I would do that. In his videos, I rarely see him use them. I've thought if I could put a few holes in strategic places, I could prob do the majority of things.
