Wow, it's a whole new world

I am borrowing a friends gas setup to use with my welder and messed around a bit tonight after getting it set up. Quite the difference!

First project is to make a welding cart and then after I give the gas cylinder back I'm going to have to go get my own :)

You talkin' oxy-acetylene or adding gas to a wire feed?? Both ARE fun.

My old reliables...........

If I were to remake that last one, I'd use bigger wheels on the rear and put those front castors underneath out of the way of things, much like the O-A cart. (Mistakes like that happen when you follow a friend's work too closely)

Maybe..........paid $145 for that one you see, in 2005. Keep your receipt in a safe place, you may need it to prove ownership, down the road. OR, if you want to sell it later on.

I'm talking about MIG with gas. I feel like I could actually make something with my welder that would look good now

Pardon my ignorance, but I love to learn new things. What can you do with arc welding that you can't do with oxy-acetylene, or vice versa? Why choose one vs the other? I know arc welding has really taken over, just wondering why.

The easiest way to put it is that arc welding is much more of a structural weld. most structures that are built were arc welded, now days lot of structural welding is done with large mig machines that put out huge wire, even 1/4" flux cored wire. I have no experience with oxy welding, only cutting.
Now, mig welding has much better control and the weld comes out looking much better, And they fairly simple to learn and use. then you have tig this is even more detailed, much harder to learn and master, your control of your weld puddle and the look of the welds are amazing if done correctly. Most chassis's of race cars are built using tig. You would never see a nascar roll cage that was arc welded. Hope this explains things in simple terms for you.
