hi all i'm here in gum spring ,VA. just west of richmond ,found this site through a link to some garage paint forum on the impala ss forum so her ei am ,i'm in the process of having a 30 x30 garage built and hopefully it will be dried in here soon...

Is that a surveryor the person is using or is it a laser levelor??? Please tell me its not a Dewalt laser leveler

i was just happy that after 6 weeks there finally getting started
took the old guy laying the brick a ******** week to get it done.

well yet another set back ,block and brick work wasn't high enough ,was cleaning up today and did some mesuring and guy needed to install one more row of block and brick to get a 10 foot ceiling i almost didn't catch it till i started trying to see how much block would be showing above the slab on the walls .. i tell ya this has been one step forward and 2 back the whole way.

Good start.
It is still not too late to change to 12 foot ceilings. You may want to have a lift at some time in the future and you will be able to drive a car under the lift with 12 foot ceilings.

well the guy finally fished the brick yesterday and now there starting on the walls

should be up and roofed in a couple of days .and sided by the end of the week

The reason for a 12' ceiling is that you need the height if you want to be able to stand or park under the lift. It isn't just the height of the lift. You might be able to create a bubble that the green house area of the car would fit into if the ceiling design allows. And last thing, building in 4 foot intervals may actually be more cost effective. Going from 8 to 12 feet is usually not much more $.

I am currently going from 10' to 12' for this very reason. And I had to tear the old garage down to do it...

well after a damn week to lay one row of block and 2 rows of brick its ready to build ,they came this morning and started and as of 2:30 had this done

and there setting trusses tommorow .

Are they trying to get the whole garage complete before the weather gets colder? As a side note, how are your winters down in Virginia?



I REALLY like the brick. It's not something you see to often, especially on garages now-a-days. What are you planning on doing for siding?

vinyl siding,winters really arn't to bad ,i send 8 of em down on the water there in virginia beach and on the bay there in norfolk back in the navy ,wind was super cold comming off the water then blowing across the flightline lol,yea i wanted 10 ft ceilings so the brick was a nice way to hide the block

well here it is almost sided and its shingled and formed up on the inside for the floor ,for some reason the framers came and enlarged the garage door opening to 16x9 from 16x8 gotta call the contractor for that .not that i would complain over a 16x9 door,lol
