I've been kind of absent from this forum this summer, taking a little bit of a break from shop fun to work non stop and do summer fun things. Anyway, thought this was worthy to post about. :3gears:

My other 1947 10e is 97% done restoration, just needs a couple knobs here and there to complete it. I still need to update it's other thread and figure out my base for it. I went to one garage sale this morning and saw another shopsmith. The guy disassembled it to get it out of the basement and the first 80 bucks took it!

He said to bring a few friends and a truck, but one (determined) person can lift it.

Still not sure what the plans are, might keep this to clean up as a user and sell the other 10e, either way I'll be happy! More posts to come.[emoji106]

Every time one comes up on Kijiji or I see one somewhere I think of getting one. Seems like I'd be the prototype user for it, you can only fit so much in a 16x24 garage.

For the right price I would encourage you to try one! I have only had a functional one for a couple months, but it is cool. The newer ones are more functional than the 10 series but both can be workhorses! Not a great table saw but fantastic drill press, lathe, mortiser, disc sander, buffer and whatever attachments you get. There are several nice articles about the pros and cons of ownership, it all comes down to being a jack of all trades master of none.

For $80, you did well.

The suckers are those who're paying several thousand for a new one at a demo and then find they can't sell it for several hundred.

I once bought several 10 series SSs. Spent hours scouring ebay for accessories. Put together the ultimate 10ER and a couple of fully assembled well tooled machines to sell.

Oops. Nobody wanted them. And I mean NOBODY. I wound up selling the desirable parts on ebay and throwing the rest away.

I consider the correct selling price for a PERFECT 10ER to be $20.

Sorry, but that's my take.

Oh, and I wound up selling my ultimate 10ER dirt cheap just to get it out of my shop. Barely used it in about two years.

My advice is to avoid Shopsmiths like the plague. Lots of other guys have the same advice.
