I had purchased a use Cornwell 1/2 drive ratchet, that make me have 1/4,3/8 plis 1/2 inch. Had some slop in the action, took itapart, cleaned and oiled it. The pawl showed a good bit of wear but the ratchet, thought, worked ok. Used it a little and maybe it skipped. Anyway, I decided to buy a kit for it, not thinking it would be warrentied. Hunted up the Cornwell guy and he exchanged for a new ratchet, pointing out that the spot of chrome on the handle peeling off was dangerous. Hadn't occurred to me, but now i have a new ratchet and a dealer I will visit when needed. Bought a pair of mechanics gloves and left.

Cornwell ratchets are some the most under rated ratchets out there. If more people had access to cornwell tools, I think they would have one hell of a following.

Some have said that Cornwell is buying its tools form other people. I don't know where they get that. The company has been around a long time.
They make great quality tools.
The sad part not many people seem to know about them. When I get them in and the grand kids sell them in the second hand store or swap meet no one want to pay for them. They think they are some cheap off brand. I give the kids a price and they stick to it but we have a box of Cornwell tools that we have not been able to sell at 30 cents on the dollar. This is California and we have so many imigrants that really don't know about all the American brands of tools. At on time I saw all the tool truck driving around the valley. The valley here has over a million people and we are 60 miles form LA You would think there would be more trucks. I see the sanp-on, Mac and Matco trucks. Once in a while I see another truck near a freeway on or off ramp. My friend sells at the swap meet and sells the Cornwell 1/2" drive deep sockets for $2 each. He can't get more and neither can I. I give them to the grand kids for thier own use. I have 5 grandsons 3 are in thier mid to late 20's They like the brand.

Cornwell stops by my shop atleast every other week. Some of the other guys buy from him, I have tried. I asked him to order a couple things for me, plastic organizer tray(he said he has never sold one) and Milwaukee M12 ratchet. Next week he stops no ratchet but he did get 2 of the trays in but already sold them. Next week didnt stop.

I have a few cornwell tools from other dealers, but they never lasted long. The dealers not the tools

Concerning finding a dealer, the online web page has a dealer locator feature which I used to get this guy's phone number. As far as ordering online, I asume you can do it but I have never looked into it. I have not been able to get prices from online but that's probably due to my lack of computer skills.

As others said, the ratchets are solidly built. They seem to use a maximum of machining to simplify operation and assembly. Like a lot of other ratchets, they have a ball on a coil spring which needs to be held in place to be reassembled. SO and probably others sell a small tool for this. After struggling with this, I made a tool by grinding an old hacksaw blade to narow it down and used the hole in the blade to hold the ball in place so that the pawl could be inserted. Worked like a charm.

Cornwell doesn't sell on line, thru dealers only. They make many of their own tools and also rebadge a lot and also carry numerous other lines not rebadged. And they keep the prices on the other lines reasonable.

Resale is a bit harder on Cornwell, Snappy is the easiest to resell and get good money for.

Representation is spotty at best.
