I love me some Snap-On and I'm a long time user but I've hated the Instinct handle from the start. But I picked up a flat and a Phillips for a quick grab bag of basic tools I'm putting together to put out fires that pop up around the house and property just to give them a fair chance. Well I tried them and in my opinion they just ****. The triangular shape, the fatness, they just feel awkward to me. No matter how or where I hold them they just feel like a turd. I'm gonna see if my dealer will take them back, they still look new.

The regular hard handles are still the way to go.

Yeah they seem too fat, so it creates more work to spin them. Good for torque but too much torque and things get stripped.

I like them because my hand are arthritic and I don't have to grip as hard as a standard clear crapsman. However I just wish the big set came with more than like three Phillips.

Plus you can now pick up used hard handles for cheap. Picked up a 10 piece set for 50 with no haggling.

I have huge hands and I always thought that they could be a bit bigger. Just shows every one is different

Yeh I dont like them either except for the stubby ratcheting screw driver.
Other than that for the stuff that only comes with a Instinct handle I switch them out to hard handles.

Instincts are great, very comfy.

Yeah they seem too fat, so it creates more work to spin them.

? Spin from the upper portion of the handle. That's why its tapered. No more work than a basic screwdriver required.

Finally people that understand me. I also hate them and I come from the young crowd. But I do like Matco Witte and wera drivers. They are more streamlined

I like them. I thought they looked to big and bulky but after using one I really liked it and though wow this is comfy in my hands. I also spin from the top. My hands are not big either.

My Snap-On man took the Instincts back and refunded my money. He said he's heard a few complaints on them but he doesn't mind them. I just can't get on board with them.

The handle is way too big for me too, but then I don't have hands like greasemonkey44. I like the older style.

Do you mean a common and a phillips screwdriver? Never seen a flat screwdriver, most are round.

So silly....

I can only assume you're trolling?

I've never heard anyone call them "common" screwdrivers. Perhaps some people do, but to claim you don't know what he's talking about is such BS.

Granted, not a lot made this way these days...

Flat blade, straight blade, "Flat" for sort... No one else had a problem figuring it out, and many aren't round shank anyway, many have been made with square shanks...

The Snap-On Instinct handles are the only screwdriver handles from any big brand, albeit truck brand, German-made, etc. etc. that I haven't tried out. I can never find a good deal on any of them or I'd probably own a set, haha

All my snapon screwdrivers were the older and later hard handles; then, some started crumbling and I warranted them. I got Instincts as replacements; at first, I was unhappy not getting the old style back in exchange. I already had pre-judged them; I figured they were inferior and not as good as the earlier style handle (they hadn't brought back the classic hard handle yet). Then, after awhile I came to appreciate the Instincts; the grip and torque are superior to the earlier designs, imho. There is without question; a lack of heft, weight and seeming feel of "quality" compared to the earlier hard handles. That being said; I do think as we get older and start dealing with repetitive stress injuries, carpel tunnel and arthritic issues... the added grip, torque and ergonomics of the Instinct handle is a definite benefit in every daily use.
Everyone has their favorites; all I can say is... buy one screwdriver that you use the most (e.g. Phillips #2 etc.) and give them a shot! You might be surprised; I have come to appreciate the soft handle instincts (just the grip edges are grippy rubber, the rest of the body is hard plastic; not like the previous generation squishy ones). As with many types of tools you may not be aware of; you won't know until you use them (give them some time as well). Give them a try; you might end up liking them. :)

You guys that hate the Instinct handle, what other screwdriver handles do you hate? Maybe that'll give me an idea of what the handle feels like.

There's very few that I actually hate, Instinct, regular Craftsmans to name a couple. I'm not a fan of Cornwells new rubbery handle drivers. Really I just like the regular SO hard handles and a close second place would be Mac's hard handles. They have the right shape in the hand, the power for hard turning and true resistance to fluids and oils. IMO rubber has no place on a screwdriver used an oily nasty environment. Too slippery and they get chewed up too easily. Don't believe me? Put some brake fluid or ATF on your instinct then try to tighten the hell out of a duct or hose clamp.....even after you wipe it off.

Riddle me this: I have the hose picks in instinct handle and they don't seem to bother me so bad. Why is that? Maybe it's that I'm not actually trying to spin a hose pick.

I have the exact same preference, so that tells me right there that I probably wouldn't like the Instinct. My other favorite is the discontinued Craftsman black industrial with the rubber coating. I like the PB Swiss with the soft grips too. Somebody on GJ here sent me a little T10 PB Swiss driver and the handle is very nice. A larger size like a #2 Phillips would probably be sweet in a PB Swiss.

I guess I like my soft Instinct drivers a decent amount. I'm not really that picky with screwdrivers in general though. I found that glass cleaner cleans them up very well. If that weren't the case and they turned into permanently greasy messes then I would have a gripe against them. Luckily that is not the case.

I feel the same way concerning the hose picks. They don't "bother me", either, the way the screwdrivers do. I have gotten used to the Instinct handles and use them every day, though, since I bought them a couple / 3 yrs ago. I still prefer old hard handles.
I have pretty much always disliked any soft handled hand tools, I think it stemmed from earlier types that seemed to soak up so much oil / grease and the they'd swell up and distort if they got brake cleaner or lacquer thinner on them. At least the instinct handles seem to stand up to the real working environment.

Instinct handle is way better....i had always used round handled screw drivers klien crapsman etc. Until recently i got a screaming deal on a mac top and bottom tool box filled with snappy mac and matco tools at an estate sale..

It had orange harley snap on hard handles and i hate them i never use them.

Also had mac hard handles they are much better.

But the instinct kick ***.

Square handles **** for loose screws when you are just spinning the screw driver from the top.....

I have said it before and will say it again, bring back the black handle.

They did. Just have to get them under the Williams name. I have the Williams hrs handle and a set of instincts. I like the instincts better. But my favorite are my cornwell(witte). I also reallly like my craftsman pro set in my road box. Call me crazy but they are pretty darn nice for the money
