My 1.5 car "garage" (barn might be more appropriate) is no longer sufficient for my needed workplace, so it's time to add some other type of protected workspace to my lot.
No money, blah, blah, blah.
A "no-weld carport" sounds like the best, quickest and cheapest solution at this point in time.
I'm hoping a floorless carport will be a rather simple, quick build as well. I saw some of those "tent" car-ports on the HAMB and I got inspired, and so now I'm scouting ebay for a deal.

Hoping to figure out a way to "install" my fireplace in one too!

But, I was mostly curious if anyone could give me some feed-back on any of the canopy carports? About how long the material is expected to last, any leaks, just basically any pro's and cons of a temporary "garage".
Thanks!

I'm going to follow this thread, I'm in a similar bind :(
All the shop space out on the farm is FULL at the moment and my rattletrap one-stall on the back corner of my lot here in town is torqued so bad the rollup door is jammed.
I fully expect the wrong stiff breeze to blow the damn thing down any day now so I don't do much with it...

I have a buddy that has one that he has used for a garage for years. Every couple years he buys some new tarps and recovers it. I has held up pretty good for his use, we have even painted a couple cars in it, dirt floor and all.

Try to find an old building and tear it down for the wood. Its some work, bu will save some money. i've made or built alot of stuff out of recycled lumber. also you can score materials off craigs materials section, yard sales, fleemarkets etc.

I have an 18x20 canopy from american steel carports. I inclosed it, insulated it, and wired it. It's still a work in progress but so far it's a great work space.

Wow, thanks for all the positive replies!

I realized today I might have enough lumber to frame something up.
So that's what I'm thinking about now, a wooden-framed carport with tarps for "walls".
Pretty sure as long as it's out-of-sight I won't have to worry about code enforcement, etc.

Obviously (I hope?) this won't be my main workspace, but I'm hoping it'll be a good place to park stuff when it's not in the "main shop".

Also scrounged all the aluminum from an old dodge sportsman RV, thinking that might be my "roof"....

Wish me luck!
(might've worked on it today but it was the first real snow!)

Hahaha, yea, the garage lighting gets a lot of comments!

(*kid walking by with dad: "look! Christmas lights" - Dad's reply: "I don't think those get taken down though, but he sure has a lot of them,")

When I moved in there were buzzing, flickering neon lights.

I HATE NEON LIGHTS, they hurt my eyes and brain, plus I had inherited a bunch of Xmas lights, so now every time I've got work to do in there I end up humming Christmas songs! It's funny.
Bing Crosby's a favorite.

Oh, and the previous pic posted is me straightening a 42-48 ford firewall. I was also able to locate the 5-window roof section. I dragged these things out of an abandoned junkyard. I got a Bug off of CL for free and I am in the process of turning it into a rat rod that I will hopefully be able to trick people into thinking is a hot rod.
