I was in carquest this morning buying some filters and the customer next to me puts a a nos gearwrench metric set of racheting combos on the counter. It was a 15pc set or so that went up to the larger sizes. It was missing a few of the smaller sizes. He dug it out of the clearance bin. The guy at the counter told him he could have them for 25 bucks. Damn, wish I looked in the bin before I went to the counter. :(

Clearance is the first place I check when I go to Sears. Just picked up a 56 piece set (not US made) Universal Mechanics set. Its the wrenches and ratchets that are black in color. Anyhow, the only thing missing was the cardboard cover and they sold it to me for $30 instead of the regular $100. I didn't need it but it was a good price so now its in my truck bag. I would rather have run up on your deal though.

Yeah I always check out the Clearance section at Sears and Home depot.

Ive loaded up on Channellock at the HD clearance endcap. I even found a 3-piece NOS set of 100% USA made Vise-grips for $17.

Is $12 a good price on a Channellock Wide-Azz Adjustable wrench? Theyve got 5 on clearance at HD.

For the Channellock Wide-Azz? Its only a 10 inch i think? 44 dollars??

I may have to get one. I checked it out, very well made, and it has the thinnest jaws Ive ever seen on an adjustable wrench. Thinner than most open-end wrenches!

Ill pick one up next time im there. :rocker:

The carquest branded combo wrenches look to be well made. If I can pick up some of the open stock they have on clearance I want to put together a set of jumbo metrics. What most common sizes do I need to piece together starting after 19mm?

Think I am just going to buy a set of 11pc craftsman double box end wrenches. It will cover what I have already plus the larger metric fasteners all the way up to 30mm. Plus the set is on sale right now for 54 bucks.

I just wish that Carquest still sold a selection of Blackhawk tools like they use to a while back.

Yeah saw that HD was selling the Channellock Wide Azz wrench but had no idea they had clearanced them by now. They didn't start selling it that long ago. Where is the clearance end cap at HD, never seen it? Do they have a lot of other Channellock tools being clearanced too?

Luckily I have two independently owned specialty tool stores in my city and both carry a very good selection of Channellock adjustable wrenches in both chrome and black phosphate finishes. One has more than the other, but both have a pretty good selection and the prices are pretty comparable to the big-box stores for most hand tools.
