? Well pump ...bad pressure guage

Anybody ever change a pressure guage on a well pump.If I kill the power to the pump and open up the faucets, the pressurr guage goes down to 50 lbs. but not down to 0 . A plumber at work said the guage is junk and I should change it.

It sounds broken. They generally just screw out.

If I shut the power off to the pump and open up the faucet til the water stops running...does that relieve the pressure at the pump? I didnt want to start unscrewing the guage and have water start shooting everywhere.

Yes that will relieve pressure but there is still going to be lots of water left in the pipe and pressure tank

Have you looked for any shutoff valves that help to isolate the area that the guage is located in.\?

If it is a bladder tank, the tank will be empty. The bladder will have expanded all the way to the bottom pushing the water out. The bladder will be pressurized, but it is sealed.

If you turn the pump off at the breaker, and open the faucets till the water quits running, then there is no pressure anywhere, except for inside the bladder, sealed up.

Thanks...thats what I thought ..wanted to be sure.I had the bladder replaced last year.I hate listening to this thing run.
