Don’t forget that the average age of members here is probably considerably higher than it was twenty years ago. Forums like this seem to not be attracting younger participants, as interest change with each generation.
I have put in a couple of shallow wells myself, back in the day, but it’s not something I will ever do again. Don’t have to, and physically can’t do it anymore, with my aging back, and all. It’s not dishonorable to write checks.
I have a guy coming over in two hours to start work on a paver patio and walkway. That’s something I would have tackled myself twenty years ago, but not anymore. Besides, if everyone did that physical work themselves, there would be no need for small contractors like that.
Similarly, I hired a local kid just starting out to climb on the shop roof and fix, or at least slow down the leaks in the metal roof (metal roofs **** the big one, by the way), and hang a new used door on our other house in town.
Just this morning I realized I haven’t used my 14k equipment trailer in over two years, and haven’t even moved the CTL out of the shop. Both are depreciating assets, so maybe it’s time to let them go. One more stump for the mini ex, though.
Doing everything, or even a few things by yourself can be rewarding for a portion of the populace, but not everyone is wired that way and that’s ok. Conversely, having those interests, skills, and capabilities doesn’t make one superior or give them the right to look down their noses at those that don’t share those interests or capabilities.
