Twice a year I go to a school district auction, they have shut down all the industrial arts classes city wide so there is usually something of interest to me. I have made many good tool purchases and I think I have posted about a few on here as well. About 3 years ago at one of these auctions I bought two cardboard boxes. They were still taped shut with the gummed kraft paper tape, I think I paid $5 for each unopened box. I bought them because of the address label and they probably weighed close to 80lbs each.

As you can see they are from Hossfeld. I have had these two boxes sitting on a shelf thinking I would ebay the contents but deep down I really wanted to get a No. 2 bender. Now this morning I went back to an auction for the same school district and bought another cardboard box from Hossfeld.

I also purchased this below.

All in I'm at $240 :bounce:

Here is the contents of the three boxes laid out on my CNC router. Now I have to figure out what all I have and find out what I need. Should be fun.

That Rockwell Delta grinder on the stand is awesome. My high school shop was full of stuff like that.

So, what was in the boxes? Did we forget to post a picture? Or is there supposed to be an image there just not displaying for me?

Oops, i forgot to add a pic of the box contents. I updated the original post. I don't know the purpose of the protrusion on the stand but its just a football shaped piece of wood. Perhaps for hanging hearing protection, maybe a faceshield? :headscrat

About 20 years ago, the local school district got rid of the metal shop, wood shop, auto shop and welding shop. Anything to do with working with hands. About 5 years ago, they finally realized some kids like to work with their hands, and the kids could make a decent living doing so. Now they have brought some of the hands-on classes back. The story above is about classes teaching how to operate heavy equipment.

My buddy is an auction buff. Last year he got wind of an online auction being held to liquidate the assets of a failed charter school. Many, MANY computers, desktops, laptops and tablets (Apple will NOT unlock any device unless you are the ORIGINAL owner and can prove it with a receipt. SOBs.) Most of the technology equipment was 3-5 years but it went for CHEAP ! They even auctioned off the janitorial supplies.

Who ever helped fund that school saw their investment go down the drain in a very short time.

I used to have good luck a school and government auctions, but then dealers started paying big bucks for this stuff. I don't know who they're re-selling it to at the prices they paid. Last bargain I got was a big honkin' Lincoln MIG welder for $200. It looked like it was barely used (after I blew the dust off) and it is single phase. I love me a good auction!
