Bad batch.
Sent out to a different country owned by wera to make them.
They received one less treatment at the factory on the day they were made.
Made on a Monday when worker xyz was coming off a binge,...pick your poison.

Hi, that bit must be soft, meaning heat treatment process incorrect, as suggested above. The heat treatment and annealing must be done right or parts will end up at lower hardness than desired and yield like that under load. Similarly, if hardness is too high parts can be brittle and snap easily under load. Middle range is desired. I'd send it back. Wera needs to review their process controls with their supplier on this. - Paul, ME on the side

Try wiha or bahco. Could you finally remove the screw? What about using an impact screwdriver?

one bad thing with wera's warranty vs wiha is the fact that wera bits need to be shipped to canada; no USA option. adds to the user cost for warranty evaluation.

Well, whether they refund or not, someone should tell them this batch at least was garbage so they will know. And likely other batches too as once a process is in place, it rately changes. Meaning this process needs a thorough review by them and improvements. I'd tell them and ask for a FULL LARGE replacement bit set for your time. They would be $ thousands of dollars ahead after your information so they can fix it before they lose all credibility with their customers soon after. - Paul

ive had a bits last for more than a few years (slotted). and i've also had a bit instantly twist upon use as well. i think there are a few bad ones floating around that skipped annealing or something.

I really like Wiha for the price/performance and availability. If you want the ultimate try PB swiss.
