Wera or Wiha

My go to portable kit is a 72 piece bit Wera.....it's awesome.


However, in the box, I have multiple Wiha and Wera variants. In a pinch, I usually will grab the Wera Ergonic BUT 99% I am always grabbing the black handle Wiha. It's just my *hand preference*.

Let me hear you Wera or Wiha preference.

I've always preferred Wiha to Wera. Most of the Wera handles are just too soft, and pick up grease then grit too easily for workshop use. I'm not totally sold on the shape either.

Wiha have nicer handles, and I reckon they wear better too, but either are good 'workshop grade' tools.

PB Swiss are better than either, but I appreciate they are a notch up in terms of cost!

Of these European screwdrivers, I'd pick PB Swiss, Felo, Wiha, Wera in that order. They're all pretty good but the PB Swiss and Felo Ergo's just feel better IMHO. (however everyone's grip is different so it's subjective)

I do have and like both however, I prefer Wiha over Wera. the grips fit my hand better and the tips seem a little harder. I have the soft Red/Blk and hard Blk(demo)handle versions of Wiha. I use the insulated version of Wiha at work as well as Klein " DaveFR" I haven't tried the Felo but I am considering a purchase for a test drive. The pivot T handle caught my eye.

The Wera grip I believe is the widest (at it's widest point) so that may offer more torque. But the Wera isn't all that fitting in the hand unless you are in and ideal position.

I'm dissapointed with my Wera chiseldrivers, the heads are too soft.I used one to break loose a chainsaw clutch and it suffered some pretty unexpected damage.Can't really use it as a screwdriver anymore.I didn't hit it that hard even, just a couple of whacks with a 16 oz. ball peen.

I like Wiha from several years ago when you could get the microfinish non slip handle mated to hex shaped Phillips and flat tip blades, without that heavy, off balance creating striking cap. Today, I'll take Wera over Wiha as I like the handle shape and blade combinations. I've never had a problem with my chisel drivers but, I haven't used them as a cold chisel. I've only beat on them to separate components and offer a little persuasion.

I don't worry much about the soft grips from wiha or wera getting dirty as, I throw them in the cuda at work for a quick bath and they're good to go.

Wiha, Wera, and Felo will serve you well so, it's mostly a matter of personal preference like red heads or brunettes, coke or pepsi, etc.

I am a CNC tech, and I use Wiha SL series insulated screwdrivers 90% of the time. The coating doesn't add to the blades diameter and still is 1000v rated. General use set is a 20yr old set of Snap On.

I assumed we are talking about screwdrivers and hex keys because those are the main areas of overlap for the two companies. I actually like Bondhus and Felo for those things. I do like wiha cutters and pliers though. I don't know that I have ever owned a wera tool. Its all a little too nifty for my liking.
