I see that GJ went through a little Wera Zyklop phase a little while ago.

Those of you that bit the bullet and purchased the ratchet and socket sets, how have they been working for you? How has the durability been? Pictures?

Most importantly, which drive size has been the most useful?

I bought the 43-piece 3/8 drive set, and I'm so pleased with it, I sold all my SO stuff (actually got quite a bit more than I paid 30+ years ago). I don't work on anything that requires 1/2 drive, just maintenance on my 16-year-old Porsche and 11-year-old Lexus SUV. The Wera ratchet is a joy to use, the system is nicely integrated, the locking sockets/extensions are a plus, the fitted case is compact and well designed, and overall quality is top-notch. My tools aren't heavily used, so I can't comment on long-term durability, but all the pieces in the kit appear robust, I don't see anything that I would hesitate to use hard. Overall, it's high quality gear.

I love my Wera ratchets, but I still go to my snap on more often. However, a colleague of mine just bought a Gedore 1/2" ratchet that I've been drooling over...

I absolutely love mine! This is my 'indoor' set. Love it. I'd rather have this set than a Snap-On. They're great too, but too over priced. All those that said this set would **** 'cause it's not made in Germany were all wrong. Screw those guys!

Bart: Yes, 993 C2 6-speed coupe, Guards Red/Cashmere, 50,000 miles. Sweet indeed! I think we chatted about your Hazet Assistent, no?

I also ordered the 3/8 drive ratchet, and am quite fond of it. I might pick up the 1/4" version as well, depending on whether it drops in price anytime soon.

I think Dink is right--they won't go down, but there are some good prices on the Wera sets if you shop around. I had already ordered mine from Amazon when I found the exact same set for $110 less at hardwaresales.com--they are currently out of stock on this exact set, 8100 SB2, 43-piece 3/8 drive metric.

pacsguy: That's a great price for a 1/4 drive set. I think I see a long extension in the kit, too, that isn't mentioned in the ad copy. The 1/4 ratchet alone typically retails for the price of this kit.

I ordered 2 sockets and an extension with the ratchet, and like them a lot, too. BUT, I can't really justify the cost of a set seeing as how I use 2-3 sizes 95% of the time.

If in doubt, spring for a ratchet and a loose socket, and if you like them enough, buy a set and keep or sell the duplicate ratchet on the forum, ebay, or elsewhere.

My main complaint about the sets: no deep sockets. That's why I've bought only the ratchets, short extensions and the Koloss kit (with the centering pin, extension and rubber pads).

chadstoolbox.com continues to have competitive pricing.

The MSC flier sale is $59.99=1/4", $64.99=3/8" $69.99=1/2" Does not include shipping but my company gets free shipping for any order over $50. The above kit looks to be a better deal but if you're after ratchet only then not bad pricing. Sale good til 5/7
