I am hanging these in the shop this weekend:

I didn't count on the included speed control being huge and an ugly off white. Will any fan speed control work? Can I control two with one control- included one says no, but I assume with some you can. Worse case I will paint the included switch or try to mount it inside a plug box with a different knob.

You may void the warranty if you use a different speed control.

We sucked it up and used the stock control. It completely covers a standard light switch. The fan moves some air and is solid. We've got this in our bedroom.

Have two of the exact same fans in my garage.

Anyway, I hated the controllers that came with them as well. I called Westinghouse and was told that any SET SPEEDS fan controller could be used... NO reversing or VARIABLE speed controller can be used.

This is the exact controller I used. You must use one controller for each fan (too many amps to wire them to one switch). They have worked flawlessly (so have the fans):

Thanks everyone. Glad to hear that they are working well and move some air. I am starting to lean toward just using a switch and have high or nothing. High ceiling with no a/c so I will want the air moving. Do appreciate the tip for no variable speed, has to be set. I didn't hink about that.

It's hard to say without seeing the wiring diagram, but if you really hate the wall mounted speed control, you may be able to put a wireless controller in it & just have a nice wall switch for on/off use.

After I looked at the fan the OP linked to, now Amazon keeps throwing me ads for the fan and a Westinghouse speed controller p/n 7787200 that mounts like my Home Depot ones, in the switch box and uses a Decora faceplate. Its only about $8.

My Home Depot fans cost somewhat more, but are 4 inches larger in diameter, and move more air (56 in, 6254 CFM and 60 watts for the Westinghouse, vs 60 in, 9600 CFM and 107 watts for the Home Depot industrial fan.) and they come with a controller that mounts in the switch box. The HD blades are plastic, but have been up since '08 in a often closed up, very hot building and haven't deformed or otherwise failed in any way.

Amazon link to the fan controller.
