I am looking at options for socket rails/organization so I would not need to store sockets in the blow mold cases they came in and increase the space efficiency/accessibility of the tools. I saw and liked the westling machine aluminum socket trays however I have some question/concern about the fit in my HF44 box.
1) How tall is the base plate of the westling organizers? Ideally I would like to store my sockets in a drawer that is not the top drawer, however when I stand my deep sockets up in the HF drawers there is very little clearance between them and the next drawer up. Therefore any rail/organizer could not extend the total height of the socket by more than 1/4" or so before they would interfere with the closing of the drawers. Would a westling organizer be too tall? If the top drawer is the only place to store the deep sockets standing up then I will do that if needed, I was just curious. It does not look like other organization solutions are any better in this regard.
2) Per the westling website the 3/8" metric rail is 16 1/4" long. By my measurements all the HF44 drawers are 16" deep. So unless I trim the rails themselves or cut holes in my drawer walls it would seem I would be just a little shy of being able to put the tray in the drawer "vertically" (length of socket tray parallel to drawer motion). Are my measurements off and it will really fit after all? If I had to put the organizer in the drawer "horizontally" (length of tray perpendicular to direction of drawer motion) would I have problems with the socket tray falling over and spilling when the drawer was opened or closed? I have seen a couple of videos online about the westling trays however I think the socket trays were always installed "vertically".
Anyone using westling socket organizers on the HF44 box how do you arrange yours?
Thanks
