Looking for a new or used larger toolbox and stumbled across Westward tool boxes.

The specs seems pretty good as the shell is listed as 14ga with 16ga drawers. The total weight of the box seems stout at shipping weight of 701 lbs.

At almost $2600 there are other options out there but it puts it squarely in the "Hmmm, this is an interesting option" category.

So . . .
Does anybody have any more info or insight to these Westward boxes?

I don’t know particulars, however my former employer (second largest automated mail order pharmacy in America) bought Westward tool carts and hand tools for their engineers and maintenance men and they loved them. WestWard is one of those brands that I wish were more available to the general public than industrial catalogs.

Looks like a proto to me. However I’ve bought more then my fair share of westward cabinets/drawers/work bench and they were all complete garbage. But it wouldn’t surprise me that grainger had these private labled and they are a decent box.

That is interesting. Westward is a house brand, so they don't make anything, just source from a supplier. Normally if you are a toolbox ****, you can tell pretty quick if it is a Waterloo, International or Kennedy. Since the box is listed as Taiwan manufactured, it could be coming out of the same factory as Extreme, Tool Vault and the likes. That box is obviously trying to copy a snap on epiq. Wouldn't surprise me since the measurements sound like a match that is a version as HF's Icon box.

That looks like a dang nice box for the money. If the drawers are made from 16 ga. I would be highly interested in that box. It does appear similar to the Icon tool box, but the dimensions are slightly different, but it does weigh in at 200 lbs more than the Icon. This would lead me to believe that the drawers might be 16 ga. The other nice thing is that it comes with a stainless top included. If you used a 20-25% off promo code, it'd become one hell of a deal for a heavy duty box. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they made it look similar to a Snap-on epiq box

I have a 44" stainless top chest I scored from the scrap heap when I worked at Grainger. It was way nicer than my small homeowner grade CMan combo I had at that point. It was damaged during shipping on the top left back corner, so it was returned.

It's been a good toolbox for the price I paid. It isn't quite as nice as some of the SO/Mac/Matco boxes I've come across since then, but I'm still really happy with my ROI, if you will.

I'd love to score a matching bottom box (or the most up-to-date version, as my SKU was discontinued years ago). But for the price of the 44" rolling cabinet, I could sell my top box, add that money to the price, and buy the 56" Milwaukee that I really want.

Westward is also the house brand of Acklands-Granger in Canada. I have one of their boxes. When my lower box had a run in with a forklift, I got the company to replace it. Martin had the same problem earlier and got a Westward, his was made by SPG International and was damm nice box. So I got them to order another. Instead, the one I got was made in China. Very shortly it split it's corners, too thin a guage metal. From that experience I would pass on Westward.

It's hard to find an "affordable" intermediate box that is deeper than 12". Westward has a light duty (80lb/drawer) 3-drawer box that is 17" deep (and 26-5/16" wide). Body is 20ga steel and drawers are 22ga. Price at Grainger is $322, price at Zoro is $249 (the 12" deep Craftsman is $100).

I ended up buying the intermediate box at Zoro, for $199 + tax. Box is made in Taiwan. Build quality is good. The ball bearing slides are rated for a 80lb load, which is enough for me. Drawer liners and a thick top mat are included. I am not a fan of drawer retention mechanisms, especially the type that slam the drawer shut. I hope I can disable that mechanism on this box.

This 17" deep box will be replacing an older Lumidor 12" deep intermediate box that I am relocating to a shelf. I also took a look at the 18" deep 3-drawer box from Grizzly, but I passed on it because it would cost an additional $78.

Hey @Outahere : I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking at that exact same Westward 3 drawer that you got. Since it's been 2 years, what's your thoughts on it?

I just bought a 2nd one from ZORO a few weeks ago, for around $153 with a a 20% coupon code. Still not a fan of the drawer retention mechanism, but I have gotten used to it.

Can you measure the dimensions of the top? I’m trying to hopefully match this to a 26”x18” craftsman griplatch.

After i was forced to retire from my last employer (now almost 20 years ago) i bought a US General from Harbor Freight, unlike the boxes it replaced it will probably never be moved from its current location.
My old Craftsman had seen duty at several different places, I had welded together a chassis from heavy channel and added industrial casters. That box was able be picked up and moved with a Forklift.
