Are WestWard tools any good, where are they made?

Both Westward and Blackhawk are Asian replicas of real tools; sort of like buying a Lamborghini replica kit made out of fiberglass body parts and powered be a Volkswagen engine.

say merk, new blackhawk i don't know, but old black hawk is some god stuff. the montezuma in my truck is full of blackhawk rats and sockets that rattle and vibrate in all extremes .heat, cold, wet, no finish issues other than minor scratching. never broke one either . older blackhawk was us made by proto. do not be scared of that stuff. not snap on but way better than cman

I have a set of westward short pattern metric ratcheting wrenches I picked up at a local freight overage store. I think I paid $10 for the set. They look pretty comparable to gearwrench except they actually have a screw on the side of the head so you can service the "guts". Pretty decent quality.. I've only used them a few times but no problems. Certainly worth the $10.

Westward are made in Japan and are sold at many auto parts stores here in Canada. I have a 15" breaker bar and it is on par with that of Proto for both quality and appearance. We have a few sockets at work and they to are very good quality.

I have used a few Westward tools in a pinch. Not professionally. I thought they were less than adequate for all jobs. In my humble opinion they are absolutely junk.

not sure if i would use a breaker bar as a gauge for the company's quality. isn't it just a length of steel with 1 square end?

I'm not a fan of Westward tools at all. To me there are 4 approximate price points for tools:

1. Princess Auto/Harbor Freight
2. Craftsman/Gearwrench/Mastercraft
3. Proto/Armstrong
4. Snap-on/Mac/Cornwell/Matco

IMHO, Westward tools are at quality level #2 with a level #3 price tag.

IMHO, Westward tools are at quality level #2 with a level #3 price tag.

Believe it or not, there is actually a price/quality level below Harbor freight.
There are no name tools that I see at dollar stores and flea markets and they are so inexpensive it boggles the mind. When you look up close you can see extreme rough casting marks in places that arent painted. In the case of say hammers with tubular steel handles, out of every batch there will be several that have the head on crooked.
