Wet Garage Floor

In my town today we had a very bad downpour and when I walked into the garage the entire floor was soaked with water. There is a new roof on the garage and I also checked for any signs of water damage on the sheathing and there is none. There is a drain in the middle of the floor and I noticed they have the downspouts connected to the drainage system. Do you think the water is backing up through the floor drain? Should I remove the downspouts out of the drainage and let the rain drain on the grass? Or is the water in the garage another issue?

I wouldn't remove the downspouts. You need to scope the drains to check for a blockage that may be causing the backup into the garage. It would be a wild guess to suggest something else is the problem.

It depends on how hard of a rain that you had. If it was a torrential downpour, it could have backed up through the floor drain because the size of pipes could not handle it fast enough. The next time you are expecting a hard rain, disconnect the downs and let the water go out on the grass and see what happens. If it doesn't do it inside, then that MAY be your problem.

Now...did you have a lot of water inside or more of a really wet dampness type of moisture? If it is that, then it could be a combination of no vapor barrier (?) and the humidity of where you are at. Other than no vapor barrier, or high humidity, or water backing up through the drain, there is not much else it could be other than those three things. You'll have to eliminate them one at a time though.

I would disconnect the downspouts from the floor drain, that most likely caused the problem due to the main line not being able to handle all ths water at once. If you disconnect them make sure they are diverted far enough away from the structure so the water does not puddle around the garage or house.

Thanks guys my buddy came over today and snaked the lines for me. He said they were clear so I disconnected the downspouts and diverted them away from the garage. I will start here first... and yes it was a torrential downpour that we had!!!

No it's for sure water backing up through the drain. It left a good amount on the floor but then slowly went back into the drain.
