We've seen the garage, lets see what it is attached to

I think it would be cool to have a thread where we can see the house that the garage is part of, attached or not. I know that for me building my garage has taken presidence over working on the rest of the house, but as my project draws to a close, I will be spending more time on the house as a whole. Here are some before and afters.

Hey Cult Hero, I recognize that garage! I've been following your progress over on the mwerks forum, looking good. It's been a fun thread to follow.

Thanks! House living area is 3300 SF, garage (heated and air-conditioned) is 2500SF, full basement; my wife designed the house, I designed the garage. We've had ten homes in the last 35 years as I moved around with GM and Chrysler, all of which had the usual 2-1/2-car garages, so my projects filled the garages and our daily drivers sat out in the driveway (in the ice and snow in the winter).

When I decided to retire, we designed/built the house, knowing we'd only be leaving it in zipper bags, so we did it the way we wanted it for the first time and didn't care too much what it cost; she has her design studios, I have my dream garage/office, and she can leave her convertible top down and doesn't have to scrape ice and snow any more in the winter. Happiness.

When I found my house , it was a four walled roofed basement started in 1972 and abandoned. No windows , no doors, only a garage door to get into it(under it). The previous owner was using it as a warehouse. I did all the carpentry, the wiring, plumbing, heating and hardwood floors. I bought it and 2 1/2 acres outside of town in hard woods. After the first year I built the garage 28 x 28 x 9 ft and I built a storage room next to it under my dining room. This house has a walkout basemeny now. Now I have someplace to build all of my cabinets for the kitchen and the rest of the house. Ya have to have a garage to build stuff!

The request was to "see what it (the garage) is attached to". Mine being detached didn't comply with the original request. I don't think the request has since been modified to include detached garages, so I don't have the right to post. If the original request allows for the ground as an intermediary, then I would comply.

bmwpower ..On a personal note...My Bro-in-law has been wrenching on BMW's for 15+ years. Currently he is here..(http://www.perillobmw.com/site/) I don't know if you work on the new ones but HOLY COW! the problems he "tries" to explain to me about the "Buss" systems and internal software/hardware/communication issues. He tells me he works on $100,000 +/- dollar cars all the time with less than 1,000miles on them.

Is there a point where something is too advanced?


It takes much more than a mechanic these days.

Don't work on anything really new...just don't have the money to buy one! Someday...

Thought I had something more recent, but you get the idea. My father (the master) and I (the gimp) built it several years ago (the house and garage) with the help of my father-in-law and some friends on occassion. Lot of work, but I think it was worth it.

Here are a couple of photos showing the home my wife and I purchased in December.

Built in 1977, so it needs some work, but that just gives us more room to make it "our" home 3 bedroom, 3 bath, with a den, laundry room, vaulted cielings, hardwood floors, etc.

It is a dual level, 2800 square foot home, with a kick *** view.
