Found a few in a 2.99 bag at gw . Is this an economy brand of another German tool maker?

I think it's a German import brand. Not made in Germany, but the stuff I've seen seems decent enough..

The tools were made in Germany. A few years ago they started outsourcing. I´m not sure if there are any german made WGB products left...

I would rate them slightly better than current Husky, Kobalt, etc. WGB is sold in the big box stores here in Germany, specifically Hornbach. I picked up a set of torx sockets and they are decent quality. The packaging doesn't list the COO so they are outsourced. I have some older wrenches that were made in Germany.I prefer them over the other box store brands that I have tried- Lux, Promat, maybe Proxxon. They seem OK for a DIY mechanic but I would can't comment on long term durability.

Many German instruments of excellent quality. It is a pity that now there is really little such an instrument - it is inevitably a thing of the past. And well-known brands change hands often losing a lot in quality and thereby lowering the bar of German manufacturers

I have VGB ticks, too, and I've had them for a long time. Great tool. And the quality is so good that I think if they treat him normally he will serve for more than a dozen years.
