Looking for some feedback about Whalen, as I never heard of them before last Saturday when I went to Costco and saw a workbench they had and shelving units. The shelving units seem pretty straightforward, didn't take a pic, but should have as I am trying to find a cost, but their site says that each shelf holds 2,000 lbs, it has 4 shelves so 8,000 or 4 tons, seems like a lot and those legs have to be putting a lot of pressure on the floor. The workbench looks good too, but not sure about the wheels.

Anyone use either of these, or have an opinion on the company. I see others on here have the regular looking bench, but they don't seem to have that one at my store.

I checked one out at Costco a month or two ago. I was surprised the quality and rigid construction. heavy gauge legs, etc. For $319.00, that a steal IMO. It sits low though, even with the casters.

I have four of their 6' tall shelving units and really like them. The only quality issue I ever had was one of the braces had the rivets installed a little low, I'm sure if I called them they would send me a new one but I just installed it on one side and put a screw from underneath into the shelf on the other.

Which width the wide 6' one or the 4' one? They were mid to low $100s I believe, I am just trying to guess from all the stuff I looked at.

I have 2 of the 6' tall shelving units they're filled with bins of various car parts and tailgating gear/equipment. I love the finish of them, they can be used as a light-duty workspace/bench as well. They're very easy to assemble and for the money, they're the heaviest duty shelves I've been able to find from any store or online retailer. Right now the front shelve has a differential, full set of rear drum brakes, assorted engine components, 4 steel wheel dollys, car audio speakers and subs, hoses and tubing, misc bolts and fasteners, the second shelve is carrying gallons of oil, coolant, water, trans gear fluid, cylinder head, 4x5gallon buckets of used oil/coolant, in other words alot of weight and they're holding up great. I've seen the roller cabinet and it was partially inspirational for my DIY bench, pegboard, and cabinets:

I have this in my grage. Seems like I paid 299 instead of 319 (could be where I live is cheaper than NJ). Here are my pro's and con's:

Pros:
Price
Sturdiness
color (matches my tool box)
quality of the butcher block
Casters (massive)
Ease of install/assembly

Cons:
Locks on the overheads are klunky
screws to mount the butcher block are tiny (I used my own larger screws instead...so no big deal)

Overall, I like it. I even mounted/bolted my vice to the front corner. I do not think i will attempt to load it up with as much weight as is listed.

Thanks, definitely going to upgrade from the Home Depot / Lowes particleboard shelving units, will leave them in the shed, these look awesome.

Just need to find an appropriate workbench, I like the depth and the storage on their rolling version but the width of their regular bench is more what I was looking for, too bad there isn't a hybrid.

Hi All!
I was thinking of asking for the Whalen mobile workbench and was curious about the height of the work surface. Our Costco has it up on a high shelf and I can't get to it easily. Would anyone who owns one be willing to give me a measurement from floor to the top of the butcher block with casters included? I would really appreciate it!
Thanks,
Bill Brown

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately they do not have any info on the mobile workbench listed on their website. Or at least none I have been able to find.
Thanks again,
Bill Brown

Bill Brown,

I have one. It's 36.25" floor to top of the butcher block with the casters on.

That Whalen stuff is top notch. I have 3 of the 8' x 74" shelving units that I purchased from Costco about 2 years ago. They are ridiculously well made and sturdy. Far and away the best shelving units I have ever seen.
