what A.C. do i have?

I live in south florida. I have what i would say is a standard florida A.C. unit. It cools great and works poor as a heater. The heater is a coil from what i understand and the air blows over it.

question: is that called a heat pump?

Not enough to go by on your question..
When you say coil is that coil a separate electric element sometimes referred to as a heating coil or is it a finned unit with aluminum or copper tubing going threw. Basically a heat pump is the latter it uses the same coil made of tube and fins to produce the heat as the A/C. The electric coil style would be considered Electrical resistance heating.

Post the manufacturer and model number. If not found on the outside of the unit, remove the front cover and you will find a data plate somewhere on the inside. Cooling coil may have separate plate. Otherwise we are all only guessing

Ok, I will get some more info but i think you guys have helped me already. I don't think i have a heat pump. Thanks for the help!

Racedude you most likely have a packaged heat pump unit ( everything is in a Box outside and the air is ducted inside from the box ) . With that said you may not have a true heat pump system . You may have a packaged AC system with an electric Heat kit added to it due to your location. I grew up in Tampa and every house I lived in down there had a package unit heat pump system.
