Was browsing local hardware/lumberyard the other day and came across a 'shop light' from this company http://www.greenliteusa.com/. 48" LED strip shoplight, 2700 lumens, 4000K color temp, 23 watts. Five foot cord and even a little on/off rocker switch. Non-linkable and can't be hard-wired, but otherwise very high quality and nice even light. I compared it to some Lithonia strips I have in my basement and could not tell the difference in light intensity or color (Lithonias may have been a touch brighter).
Not to gloat, because the light is a really nice fixture even at a "reasonable" average price for an LED strip, but these were $4.99 each. Yes, you read it right, just a hair over five bucks with tax. I bought ten of them and probably would have bought more if I needed more. You cannot manufacture this product for five bucks, so the State must be pre-paying an efficiency rebate to the store. I am stoked because I have been tossing various schemes around in my head for lighting my shop and this made it easy. For the price, they are less than a two-pack of T8's at Homey D.
