Ordered two pairs of 10'' locking pliers from sears. The online picture of the pliers is clearly stamped "MADE IN THE USA." Picked them up at the store, clearly stamped "CHINA"

Got a link? They will reimburse you, or get you NOS.

I would use them and then take them back (maybe a different location, if there is one) and say "I didn't notice right away that they were chinese."
Or if you already went to the only location you could call customer service to complain.

If the photo was supplied by sears , be it a recent catalog or their website, they absolutley can not do that. Mentioning filing a complaint with the FTC might help. just my humble .02

in that case id demand some NOS USA ones failing that id just accept a refund. i was in my local hardware store about six months ago and found four pairs of "MADE IN USA" visegrips right at the back of the rack behind hundreds of Chinese ones, two curved jaw ones marked Irwin and two straight jawed versions with just the visegrip logo on them, snapped them all quick time. thank god the shelf stackers didnt practice stock rotation.:)

Yup. BTDT. I just returned them. Took the store about twenty minutes to figure out HOW to return them to my credit card, but they did.

They have a sign over the Sears stores in my hometown, now I can not recall the whole thing but in effect it reads something like "IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WE WILL bend over backwards to make it right"...OR SOMETHING LIKE" SATISFACTION GUARANTEED OR YOUR MONEY BACK".

So call 1-800-549-4505 and tell them Woody sent you; you want your money back or a set made in the USA! be nice and they will make it right.

That is disappointing. I will be hesitant to buy anything online w/o looking at it first. If need be, I will swtich brands - I insist on buying American made tools.

It's a common mistake not updating the picture.

I bought mine about 4 years ago and color is red (made in USA) instead of gold.

One of the reviews:

"Made in China - very disappointed June 04, 2010"

That's more than 18 months ago and they haven't changed the picture yet. Shame on Sears.

I had the same thing happen, was going to do an in-store pickup for some flare nut wrenches. The online picture showed the older Made in USA tray while the in-store wrenches were in the grey plastic rack made in China. However because the item number was the same I would have gotten the Chinese wrenches. Ended up ordering the raised panel version shipped free to my house.

they are actually stamped "china" all the stuff I seen doesn't have the COO it just has china on the package
I have looked at dozens of them at several different stores. The USA made ones are stamped USA. The china made ones have no coo stamp. Only says china on the package. I have also seen some that have no stamp but on the package say "made in the USA from global components".

I have worried about using online order or instore pickup for that reason. Most of the guys at my local Sears don't even know there was a change in COO!

Oh, it's definitely STAMPED with China on the back. Here's a pic. Conveniently covered by the packaging. Noticed later on the packaging, in SMALL print, manufactured in china, near the bottom outside where the package is sealed over. Hard to see.

Where exactly will you find new production USA locking pliers? (not some off chance NOS or garage sales, but new current production)

I've heard that before, also. That's why I was excited when I thought I'd found a set made in USA, only to be disappointed.

Had this happen to me recently with some Lisle stuff. The pictures of the products had a visible stamp "MADE IN U.S.A.". The ones I received were made in China.

Before ordering, open up online chat and ask the operator to contact "product support" and determine the country of origin. They are good, it will take a few mins but they have always been correct in informing me.

I am not in the market for locking pliers, but if I were I find a pair made in USA. I see harryepstein.com has some made in USA locking pliers.

Sound like best solution.

Maybe with some clever dremel tooling I can make it say ****** instead. As long as I don't have to see CHINA it'll be good while it lasts

I am not either, but seeing that that plant closed almost 4 years ago leaves a lot of people out of luck. Sure one can buy from a limited stock of surplus old stock, but there are downsides to that as well.
