Like the title says, what are end nipper pliers used for?

I don't like it when I see a tool and don't know what they're used for - that way I can't decide if I "need" one or not :bounce:

I can only tell you what I use them for. I use big ones to nip off the ends of nails that protrude from framing members at times. Particularly when remodeling, i.e. leaving the sheathing and sideing on an exterior wall, and changing the framining around for a different sized window or something. I also use a specific pair of Knipex for cutting the ends of horsehoe nails off when shoing horses, before clinching them. Lot of different tools used in that trade.

They're for cutting things with the ends of the pliers.

When you start running into situations where you need to do that, buy the pliers. ;)

They are used alot for tying wire. My father is an insulation contractor and they used them all day tying wire around insulation to hold it onto the surfaces/ pipes.

I use them to cut the ends off cable ties after I tighten them:

I have both side cutters and end cutters. When I am putting cable ties on my race kart (and there's a lot of them, believe me) I cut the majority off with side cutters then finish with end cutters. I do this because I am a perfectionist and the end cutters cut closer and cleaner than end cutters. Do side cutters work fine? Yes, but I am insane like that.

Word of advice about using any type of center cutting pliers on cable ties-that little barb that remains after the cut is SHARP-working around them can get you a bunch of new scars.I prefer to cut cable ties with a utility knife with a fresh blade-not as quick, but less blood shed. Even better, but a little pricy,T&B makes a neat Ty-Wrap installation tool that tensions the tie and trims it flush.
As for end nippers, they're meant for use anytime a wire, staple or nail needs to be cut off close to a surface. Because of the rounded shape of the head, they work great for pulling out nails and staples too.

That's why I use end cutters. It cuts them exactly flush, can't even feel 'em.

Damn, these will be on my $100 gift card from HD. I never thought about it, but I know a few instances where I could use them.

My Channellock end nippers are shorter than the ones in the picture. I use them for cutting and pulling nails, wire and staples. I bought a Companion pair and ground down part of the edge so I can get into tighter spots with the cutters.

I think that they are useful when trimming and laying tile too... but I've never actually done it.

Tile nippers and end cutting nippers are not the same tool. The jaws on tile nippers don't close all the way where as end cutting nippers do. End cutting nippers are the standard tool for pipe insulators.

I use Snap On flush cut electronics pliers to cut off zip ties. Highly recommended.

End nippers work to pull a finish nail through a piece of trim that you want to reuse, rather than buying a new one. They work pretty good for getting hold of a nail that a prybar or claw hammer won't grab on to, as well.

They're used in the chinese torture method of pulling out fingernails.

I saw it in the movie 'Syriana' with George Clooney and Matt Damon. Just flat out sick and nasty! Gave me the willys!
