I have a 40' x 60' pole barn I am using as a machine shop. It is 14' high to the gable. Built in 1975. I am in Indiana, so it gets a bit cold here in the winter.
My walls are framed in, insulated and drywalled up to the base of the trusses, the ceiling is losing alot of heat though.
Ceiling is aluminum on top, with a foam/vapor barrier type pad underneath, about 2-3" thick. It is some type of hard foam. All of that sits over the top of the trusses. Over the years, some of the foam has deteriorated in places. Some of the seams appear to have some kind of tape on them, some of that is gone. Some of the foam around the edges is gone.
I am wondering what my options are. Trying to figure out something cost effective that won't break the bank.
Tear off and re-roof - seems expensive.
Suspended ceiling - price would seem to be about $2,500 last I looked into it. Blow some type of insulation over the tiles when done? Not sure if this is ok to do? I have read you do not want a second vapor barrier, so maybe this is not ok to do?
Other ideas?
